Research
Bruce’s research interests involve understanding the fundamentals of solution-based assembly and interfacial interactions, particularly as applied to bio-inspired nanocomposites. Assembly strategies involve classical self-assembly, programmed assembly (using molecules with switchable interaction potentials), and active assembly (involving energy-consuming species such as motor proteins and microtubules). Applications of interest for bio-inspired assemblies include composites for the harvesting, transport, storage, and conversion of energy as well as programmable materials for sensors and environmental remediation.
