Winson Kuo is a Materials Scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory specializing in advanced electron microscopy, spectroscopy, and focused-ion-beam methods for nanoscale-to-atomic-scale materials characterization. His research focuses on understanding dynamic structure–property relationships in functional and metastable materials, particularly how nanoscale structure, chemistry, defects, interfaces, and phase transformations control materials properties and performance.

Building on his research background in thin-film metallic glasses and advanced magnetic materials, his current interests span amorphous and metastable materials, magnetic materials and heterostructures, semiconductor materials and devices, and interface-dominated functional materials. He develops and applies SEM, TEM/STEM, FIB, electron diffraction, EDS/WDS, EBSD, EELS, 4D-STEM, in-situ microscopy, and cryogenic methods to investigate structural and chemical heterogeneity, phase evolution, irradiation and implantation effects, materials degradation, and functional-property changes.

Winson also brings extensive experience in semiconductor process integration, failure analysis, and device reliability, including interfaces, diffusion, irradiation-induced damage, defect analysis, and resistive-switching devices. At CINT, he leads electron-microscopy facility operations and capability development, develops advanced characterization methodologies, mentors and trains researchers, and collaborates with users across national laboratories, universities, and industry.
